To
get to the Nutakuan reserve, take route 138 along the St. Lawrence
to the end, and there we are--at Natashquan.
CNDs have been living in solidarity with the
Montagnais since 1978. They were four then and now we are two,
teaching at the Uauitshitun Indian School. Sister Diane
Caron teaches fifth grade, while Sister Ghislaine
Charland teaches French to 5-year-olds in the kindergarten.
We’re here because of an interior call to
be free for mission, and because of the need for teachers. In this
way, we are continuing the work of Marguerite
Bourgeoys, who asked the sisters of her
day to teach the native peoples on the mountain.
We're ready to live the Visitation
with the Montagnais
people in all sorts of ways: sharing their joys and sorrows,
offering a word of encouragement from time to time, or simply
listening in silence. Our care is born of compassion.
The years we've been here have only deepened
our love for these people and theirs for us. |
