Founded in 1971 to respond to the social needs of the area, the SERVICE D'ENTRAIDE BASSE-VILLE is a not-for-profit organization under the direction of Sr. Lise Bouchard, CND. The purpose of the Community Kitchen, a service of food preparation sponsored by the organization, is to:

Assist low-income people; Enable people gradually losing their independence to stay home longer; Provide an atmosphere of love, respect and sharing in which volunteers and trainees are encouraged to grow and develop independence and self confidence.

The COMMUNITY KITCHEN offers these 2 activities:   MEALS ON WHEELS: Each day, about 30 people prepare about 50 hot meals for the home-bound. These workers belong to a large family formed by 70 volunteers and trainees. Among them, some are handicapped, others are struggling with various difficulties, and still others have been sentenced to do community service work.

COOKING COURSES FOR LOW-INCOME PEOPLE: To increase the benefits of the courses, a recipe book for participants was made with the collaboration of our volunteers.
