Louise and Amabilis,
building bridges among Latinos in Montreal

Sr. Amabilis Deveau (left) and Sr. Louise Gélinas (right) meeting with friends after Sunday Mass.
Welcome to Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand in Villeray, Montreal, where Louise has been working in a Latin-American community for 8 years, and Amabilis since 1999.

Sr. Amabilis in the Dominican Republic. Both worked in CND missions in Central America for many years.

We try to establish the link between faith and social reality –
  • gathering people of various cultures to celebrate the faith in their own language
  • preparing for liturgy and the sacraments, singing in the choir
  • meeting with groups of young people
  • greeting new immigrants
Sister Louise and volunteers often visit Latin-Americans in prison. One prisoner responded: "Thank you for helping me to keep on, because of knowing you and your unconditional love; I am deeply touched by your commitment"

Our aim is to help integrate Latin-American cultures among themselves and with their new country.

Together we’re building bridges and breaking down walls of indifference and exclusiveness.
