International Women's Day: celebrating the positives

CND

March 8, 2011: International Women’s Day While we have seen a significant change of attitude in society about women's equality and emancipation, patriarchy is still strong. Women are more visible in professional life but women are still not paid equally with their male counterparts. The violence against women persists.

However, in recent years the tone and nature of International Women’s Day has moved from being a reminder about the negatives to a celebration of the positives. Annually on March 8, events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. Maybe we join other women to contribute in some way to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.
