Gathered at the Passionist Retreat House on the Hudson, eighty-nine
Chapter delegates; six participating Canadian observers; and, for the
first two days, our two associates who will attend the General Chapter
this summer in Montreal, spent five days in prayer, sharing, and decision
-making. In that graced time we ninety-plus remembered Marguerite’s
words, "It is true that all I have ever desired most deeply and what
I still most ardently wish is that the great precept of the love of God
above all things and of the neighbor as oneself be written in every heart
(The Writings of Marguerite Bourgeoys, 187.) We recognized and
acknowledged that the desires of Marguerite are ours too. The process of
speaking from our hearts and listening reverently evoked in us the
energies of the Visitation. In this environment, we focused on Mission
(Prayer/Community/Ministry) and Resources for Mission (Vocations/Associates/Technology/Collaboration) through the lens of right
relationships always in the light of Visitation and Pentecost |

The leadership team recommended two full-time sisters and four
councilors without portfolio. This was voted and agreed upon. With great
joy the Chapter delegates greeted Anne Leonard as Provincial Leader;
Sister Nancy McDermott as Associate to the Provincial Leader; and Sisters
Margaret Rose Farley, Patricia McCarthy, Mary Anne Powers and Jane Ann
Scanlon as councilors without portfolio. Blessed Sacrament’s delegates
to the General Chapter, July 22 - August 10, 2001, are Sisters Peggy
Doyle, Mary Anne Foley, Stacy Hanrahan, Nancy McDermott, Darleen Mayo,
Mary Anne Powers, Jane Ann Scanlon, and Anne Seeley. Alternates are
Kathryn Madden and Joanne Murphy.
To tell the story of this Chapter is to look back to an experience
and celebration of Visitation - Pentecost; to a deepened understanding of
our individual, province, and Community calls to be women of the Gospel;
to joy in our giftedness and diversity; to our hope for the future; to our
commitment to living the vision of Marguerite in our ministries, our
communities, our work, and our prayer.
