HOLY ANGELS HIGH SCHOOL

UNIQUE CHOICE...
In which tradition meets the wave of the future...
For over one hundred years young women in industrial Cape Breton, Nova Scotia have had a choice in their high school education. The uniqueness of this choice continues today.
Holy Angels is the only all-girl public high school (approximately 500 students) in Nova Scotia. Founded in 1885 by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, the school remains true to its original
purpose - to provide young women with unique opportunities to become mature, well-balanced young women.

The focus is on the education of young women
In all-girls' schools, the special interests and particular learning styles of young women are recognized and accommodated; for example:
- research has shown that girls learn best where cooperative groups have replaced competitiveness.
- it offers a supportive encouraging environment where young women are free to develop their abilities to the fullest.
The school listens to the voice of young women
- All leadership roles in student government and student activities are in the hands of young women.
- Special events and celebrations for women are held throughout the year.
- The curriculum is tailored to the needs and interests of the young women.
- All the resources of the athletic program are focused on the development of women.

|
At Holy Angels a young woman feels free
- To excel academically in both arts and sciences
- To become competent in using the latest computer technologies
- To explore social issues of significance to women.
As she grows in knowledge, skill and confidence, the young woman prepares to take her place in the world beyond high school, knowing that she has much to offer, and confident of her abilities to make her contribution to a better world.
