Welcome to the CND
House in Kumbo,
North West Cameroon, Africa!
Our visit will probably be interrupted by the doorbell, since many
people come to see us, sometimes just to greet, but more often to ask
for help of various kinds. And thanks to many friends in North America,
weve been able to find funds for the crippled and disabled of our
parish and for students in the schools where we teach.
 |
Let us
introduce ourselves:
Besides dealing directly with families in our
neighborhood, Sister Cécile Buote
works with the parish catechists as well as with diocesan groups
like the Family Life Apostolate courses for young couples. |
Sister Marilyn von Zuben
whose work with women takes her into many homes. When possible, she also
visits those detained in the local jail, sometimes acting as advocate
for the most desperate. She also acts as gadfly on the diocesan Peace
and Justice Commission, and occasionally directs retreats for other
religious.
Every weekday Sister Noreen
MacDonald is at St. Peters, a diocesan day school, grade 8
through junior college. Here she serves as bursar and "traveling
librarian," introducing students to the joys and wonders of reading
thanks to her trips to the British Council Library, which comes to Kumbo
once a month.
Because she teaches full time at the minor seminary, Sister Louise
Finn comes home only on weekends to recharge her batteries for
the week ahead.
Our fourteen Associates
-- men and women of all ages-- are sincerely trying to grow in the spirit
of the Visitation, reaching out to others, like Mary, in joyfilled
compassion.
All of us also use our frequent trips to the market as occasions
to encounter others in simplicity and openness, and in turn, we are
accepted warmly by these welcoming people!
|
Do stop by
again soon.
Visitors are always welcome! |
