AT THE HEART
OF THE UNIVERSITY...
Welcome to LÉcole
préparatoire de musique de lUQAM, the Preparatory
School of Music at the Université du Québec à Montréal,
founded by Sister Marcelle Corneille in 1976.
Under her direction, with the assistance of Sister Yolande
Leduc and a team of 26 lay teachers, 220 students from 4½ years
old to adults, take courses ranging from Introduction to Music to
the study of instruments and voice. |
| Each year, some 1600 additional students from
public and private schools receive certificates in music on the
basis of examinations supervised by lÉcole. In this way, its
influence extends from the Montreal area to Beauport, Saint Agapit,
Sherbrooke, Lac-Mégantic, Joliette, Sainte Thérèse and
Rosemère.
In addition, lÉcole
offers:
- workshops for continuing education for music teachers
- a choir of parents and children who practice every
Saturday
- annual violin and piano contests of talented young
musicians
- concerts by students and teachers open to the public.

At LÉcole

ages, along with their families and teachers, live out the values
of faith, love and hope. Marguerite
Bourgeoys, first teacher of Ville-Marie, would be
delighted! |
