WAMPUM CENTER

Bonjour! I'm Sister Marie-Laure Simon, CND, and I'm happy to welcome you to Wampum Center.
crnv@cam.org

The Center’s name comes from "Kahswentha," a peace agreement between the first Europeans who came to North America and the native people. It states that neither side shall attempt to bring or force their laws, traditions, customs, language or spirituality on the other nation. This is shown by the 2 parallel rows of colored beads which represent two vessels traveling on the same white river.

Wampum Center is a place where native peoples and those of other nations can move beyond their prejudices, accepting their differences and looking for the connections between them.

What does Wampum Center offer?
  • meetings with native spiritual leaders
  • conferences on native culture, history, traditions
  • immersion experiences
  • participation in solidarity campaigns and special events like Earth Day
  • a welcome for native people who visit Montreal

We who live here and you who have just come
let us travel the river side by side in mutual respect,
each in our own boat.
