There were sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame in Canada long before it existed as a country.

17th century in 1659 five French women begin the Congregation in Montreal, in Quebec.
18th century in 1727 the first CND sister, with two lay women, begins teaching girls in Louisburg, in Nova Scotia.
mid-19th century in 1841 the first CND mission is established in Ontario;
later, sisters open schools in New Brunswick and in Prince Edward Island.
late 20th century the CND spreads as far as the Canadian West, in Alberta, in British Columbia and in the Yukon.

So that now, at the beginning of the 21st century, we can be found from one ocean to the other, in 7 of the 10 Canadian provinces. We are about 1400 sisters--1000 French-speaking and 420 English-speaking; and over 500 Associates--180 French-speaking and 370, English-speaking.
